Description
Teaching with Turnitin is an online course that aims to re-frame the way we think about Turnitin. Rather than using it merely as a policing tool to help us detect plagiarism, this course encourages learners to utilize the full potential of Turnitin and its Feedback Studio in order to help students improve their academic writing and learn from their mistakes. Teaching with Turnitin offers learners opportunities to collaborate with peers, learn from step by step instructional videos, and practice those skills in authentic scenarios within the course.

Intended Audience
This course is primarily designed for instructors at Western University who use the LMS Sakai (OWL) for their courses. However, it can be used by an instructor using this LMS, and the majority of the course content is LMS agnostic and focuses primarily on Turnitin, so teachers wanting to utilize the learning potential for the tool will benefit from this course as well.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this WBLT, the user should be able to:
- Set up Turnitin in their OWL course sites
- Adjust filters and settings to exclude sources and small matches in the Similarity Report
- Grade a student paper using a digital rubric and QuickMarks inline editing to provide more extensive, detailed feedback
- Provide personalized, voice-recorded feedback on a student submission
- Utilize the full potential of Turnitin's feedback studio as a learning tool for students
